What is Sharecipe?
Sharecipe is a free website where members can connect with friends and family around food. Build your network, share your recipes and find cooking inspiration from all your connections. Store and manage your own recipes, find tips & tricks and exchange information all about food and cooking.

Where can I find more information about Sharecipe?
Follow our blog and on Twitter: You can also take a tour of Sharecipe: Can I use a recipe I found elsewhere?
Yes. Recipes are not copyright-protected. If you have a recipe from another source, we ask that you include the source when you add the recipe.

Home Page
Your home page gives you a snapshot of items relevant to you. It lists a brief news feed, your current top recipes, a few of your friends and your notes. From your home page you can navigate to other areas of the website that are of interest to you.

What is "Food for Thought"?
Food for Thought is where you can post a quick note, idea or question that broadcasts to your network. For example, "looking forward to scallops tonight - yum!" or "enjoyed ricotta-stuffed French toast this morning," or "need an easy weeknight dinner recipe ASAP!"

What is the News section?
The News Feed and News section keeps members updated on what's going on in their network. You'll see updates when someone in your network:
  • Adds a friend
  • Adds a recipe
  • Adds a note
  • Comments on a recipe
  • Posts Food for Thought
  • Changes their Signature Recipe
What are "My Notes"?
My Notes is where you can post anything you want to share with your network. Similar to a blog or your kitchen bulletin board, you can share cooking tips & tricks, recommendations, info about new kitchen gadgets you find, anything you like. Friends in your network can comment on your notes, creating an exchange of ideas that everyone can enjoy.

Recipes Section
The recipes section contains anything and everything about your recipes and the recipes in your network. In Recipes you can:
  • View all the recipes in your network, including those from Friends and Friends of Friends (All Recipes) by category/cuisine or alphabetically.
  • Add a recipe.
  • View your personal recipes (My Recipes).
  • Designate and change your Top Five and Signature Recipe (My Recipes/Edit).
  • View all the new recipes added in your network (New Recipes).
  • View the Top Five recipes of each friend in your network (Top Recipes).
  • View the recipes you have flagged for a particular reason (Flagged Recipes).
  • Search recipes for a particular ingredient.
How do I add a recipe?
Adding a recipe is easy. To get started, we only require the name, ingredients, directions and category. All of the other information can be added at a later time. Try to be as specific as possible with ingredients and directions, and have fun with the Cook's Notes!

Can I save a recipe to finish it later?
Yes. If you start a recipe and don't have time to complete it, you can save it to work on later. You will need to enter placeholders in the four required sections, then select Private for the type of posting and Preview This Recipe and then Submit to save the recipe to your My Recipes page. When you are ready to finish the recipe, simply enter the recipe, click Edit, complete the recipe, and then change the posting type to Friends or Friends of Friends and submit.

When adding recipes, what does Private, Friends, and Open mean?
New FAQ question: When adding recipes, what does Private, Friends, and Open mean? On Sharecipe, when you enter a recipe you have the option of choosing either Private, Friends, or Open.
  • Private : Choose this option if you want to keep your recipe private so that only you can see it.
  • Friends : Choose this option if you want only the friends currently in your network to see.
  • Open : Choose this option if it is ok for anybody to see your recipe.
The previous designation of Friends of Friends has gone away and been replaced by Open. You can change the privacy settings of your recipes at any time by simply clicking Edit in the recipe, change the privacy setting, preview and then submit.

Why can't I click into a recipe that my friend's friend posted?
Some recipes will be added and designated for friends only, which means only members connected directly to that member can view that particular recipe. To view these recipes you must connect directly with that member.

What does it mean to Flag a recipe? How do I do it?
Flags are personal markers (that only you see) for you to identify and manage recipes in your network. This can be useful when the number of recipes in your network grows. You can flag a recipe by selecting Flag Recipe in the recipe's text box, on the right side of the page.

For example:   = Make This! = Loved It! = Needs Something

Flags are only seen by you and the meaning of the different flags can be whatever works for you.

You can view/sort your flagged recipes in your Flagged Recipes page.

You don't need to flag recipes - it's just a handy tool to help keep track of recipes you've made, loved, didn't like, or want to make.

What is a Personal Note?
When you are viewing a recipe, you can write a personal note on the recipe that only you will see. For example, "next time, add less salt and more lemon juice".

What does it mean to comment on a recipe?
Comments are seen by anyone who has access to view that recipe. Have fun and share with your friends how the recipe turned out, any modifications you made, suggestions you have, handy tips or tricks, etc.

Friends Section
In the Friends section you can:
  • See a list of friends in your network.
  • View friends' profile pages, which include their top recipes, news, notes and friends.
  • Invite a friend to join Sharecipe (a friend who's not yet signed up).
  • Find a friend that is already on Sharecipe.
  • View and accept friend requests.
How do I invite a friend that is not on Sharecipe?
Under the Friends tab, click on Invite Friends and enter your friend's email address and a personal message. Your friend will receive an email from Sharecipe telling them they have been invited to join your Sharecipe Network. You may need to let your friends know to check their spam filters to ensure they successfully receive the invite from Sharecipe.

How do I find/add a friend that is already on Sharecipe?
You can search for friends already on Sharecipe by using Find Friends under the Friends tab. Enter a first or last name or email address and click Search. If you find your friend in the search results, you can invite him or her to join your network and/or send a message. Sending a message doesn't add the person to your network. To add a friend to your network, find your friend (through Search or friend listings on your friends' pages), click Invite... to be your friend, send a personal message if you like and then click Invite.
