Boiled Buttermilk Icing

This icing is intended to be thin and poured over hot cake.


Ingredients:
1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

1 tablespoon white corn syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla



Directions:
Combine all ingredients except vanilla in 2 quart heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, and boil for about five minutes. Icing will turn a dark golden color as it boils. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Let cool for a few minutes, if desired. This icing is intended to be thin and poured over hot cake.
